Meet Our June Dog of the Month! 🐶

WHAT'S YOUR DOG'S NAME AND HOW DID YOU CHOOSE IT?

Dexi - Her name was Lexi when we rescued her, and we wanted to honor the much-loved pooches we'd lost in the past, so we used a letter from each of their names (D-Dakota, E-Ben & Bella, X-Max, I-Sadie). We also wanted it to be a name close to what she was used to, since she was already 2 years old.

WHAT BREED IS YOUR DOG?

She's a French Bulldog, and is now 4 years old.

WHAT SQUISHFACE PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?

We use Squishface Wrinkle Wipes (every week!) & Squishface Wrinkle Paste. Those wipes have saved our literal hineys! (and faces and hoo-hoos and tail pockets) Thank you soooooo much for inventing a product that is gentle enough for all their parts!

WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR DOG?

Sadly (but luckily for us), someone was selling her on Craigslist for way too cheap for a Frenchie. She had been used as a breeding mom and was costing them too much in vet bills. She was having very hard pregnancies & c-sections each time. We really rescued her, as she immediately needed expensive vet treatment for an impacted colon.

WHAT'S THE WEIRDEST THING YOUR DOG DOES?

Oh my goodness, the list of goobery things a Frenchie does! The snorts, the faces, the snores, the sleep positions - how do you pick just one? I think one of my favorites is the absolute crazy-zoomies on the bed every once in a while, out of nowhere, when her dad walks in the room if he's been gone for a while. It's not every time - that's what makes it so funny. She runs, spins, stops, stares, barks, hides in the pillows, then does it all over again - such a goober!

WHAT'S YOUR DOG'S FAVORITE TREAT OR SNACK?

Her favorite treat or snack is any food she can get her face into!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TRICK THAT YOUR DOG DOES?

She is not really a "trick dog". She gets very distracted by pretty much everything. However, she "taught herself" her cutest trick - she bounces like Tigger while I'm making her food bowl every day. Boing, boing, boing - up & down just like Tigger from "Winnie the Pooh"! I really wish I could get her to stop, though...she already has the Frenchie bad spine.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU FAILED AT TRAINING/COULD NOT TRAIN YOUR DOG TO DO?

She is pretty stubborn (or goofy) at being a "trick dog". Even with food as being a motivator, she has only gotten to "sit". She then just turns into the Tazmanian Devil.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO WITH YOUR DOG?

I have several autoimmune conditions that affect my nervous system. I'm not able to get out much, so Dexi really has become my emotional support animal. She just knows when to come over and lay on my legs when they hurt - so we watch TV a lot, or walk around the backyard when we can. I play with her toys with her in the house. We also go for drives.

TELL US A FUNNY STORY ABOUT YOUR DOG.

Several months ago I bought a new, fluffier dog pillow to put in Dexi's travel crate she rides in inside our vehicle. When it's not in the cage, it's in the house on the floor for her. My husband & I went to the grocery store, so we weren't gone that long. When we got home, we walked in the door & Dexi was lying on another dog pillow, next to a huge pile of white stuffing that had been inside the new pillow! She even had some of that stuffing stuck to her nose...that little goober had ripped the innards of that new pillow out and scattered them all over the living room in under one hour. We had to order a NEW new pillow for her crate! She looked so proud of herself. Our Chihuahua was hiding back in her crate like, "I had NOTHING to do with this!" LOL

WHAT IS ONE THING THAT MOST DOG OWNERS COULD DO BETTER WITH THEIR DOGS?

Pay attention to them every day! We're retired, so it's easy for us to give our dogs love, attention, & affection on a daily, even hourly basis. However, we know how busy people get in their daily lives with jobs, kids, activities, hobbies, etc. - and the dogs are the last items on people's lists to get attention or affection. They give us so much unconditional love! It's not so hard to just give them a bit of your time and attention each day.

WHAT'S ONE SPECIAL THING ABOUT YOUR DOG THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH READERS? 

Dexi has brought so much laughter & light to our lives. Every single day she makes both my husband (a veteran with PTSD) & I laugh at some goofy little thing she does or sound she makes. We have been truly blessed by God bringing this ball of gooberiness into our lives. She will forever be our Snort.
