How to Clean Dog Eye BoogersMarch 03, 2022
What Are Eye Boogers?
Dog eye boogers are actually discharge that comes from your dog’s eyes. When their eyes get irritated, they will often produce a thick discharge that will build up around the inside of the eye and on the tear duct. This accumulation is often called "dog eye boogers."
While the discharge is typically a clear or yellowish mucous, it can become stained by excessive tear production that can be a result of eye booger build-up in the tear ducts, causing reddish or brown streaks called tear stains.
When Should I Worry?
If your dog has discharge coming from one or both eyes, it's important to determine if it's just a minor irritation or if something more serious is going on. In most cases, eye boogers can be cleaned carefully and there is no need to be concerned.
However, if left unchecked, eye boogers can cause irritation or even an infection, so if you notice redness or swelling, it is a good idea to schedule an appointment with your Veterinarian to have your pup’s eyes checked.
How do I Clean Dog Eye Boogers?
Now that you know what dog eye boogers are, it is time to clean away the boogers and any tear stains that might have formed due to the discharge.
One important thing to note is that soap and water can irritate their skin. Instead of soap and water or other cleaning products that do not take a dog’s sensitive skin into account, we highly recommend using Squishface Wrinkle Wipes.
Our Wrinkle Wipes have phytosphingosine in them and no other dog wipes have that. Phytosphingosine is a pro-ceramide with anti-inflammatory and microbe repelling properties. It helps rebuild the natural ceramides found in the skin barrier that are critical in helping keep the skin healthy.
Use a Wrinkle Wipe to gently clear away the boogers and clear away other dirt and grime in their wrinkle folds or around any tear stains.
After cleansing with a Wrinkle Wipe, follow with Squishface Wrinkle Paste as a protective barrier on your dog’s stubborn tear stains.
For best results, clean the area with Wrinkle Wipes and apply fresh Wrinkle Paste once daily for 7 to 10 days. Once you reach the desired results, apply once every other day or as needed to keep their faces clear of eye boogers and tear stains.
Although it may be a little bit of a hassle, cleaning and protecting your dog's eye boogers and tear stains with Wrinkle Wipes and Wrinkle Paste is an important part of taking care of their overall health and well-being. By doing so, you'll help keep their eyes healthy and free from infection.
